New Product - Heil Dynamic Microphones - PR35
The PR 35 has been designed for commercial broadcast, recording and live sound reinforcement applications which require a smooth flat response over a wide frequency range. The PR 35 was designed around the acclaimed PR 30 element and incorporates a sorbothane shock mount to give the best possible results. The PR 35 achieves its exceptional performance by using a special magnet structure and a large aluminum 1 1/2" low mass voice coil assembly. A carefully wound and placed hum bucking coil allows the PR 35 to be used close to video monitors without unwanted hum or buzz. Special attention has been paid to the phasing plug assembly with equally placed ports that sense audio from behind the source. It then enters them out of phase thus producing a very linear cardioid pattern. This reduces the proximity effect while achieving the extreme articulation across its smooth 40 Hz- 18 kHz frequency response. The new Heil element can be used in extreme high sound pressure levels and is immune to overload conditions. It produces a beautifully smooth audio response without the inconvenience of phantom or outside d.c. powering. The PR 35 is equipped with a three position roll off switch. The first position is flat, the second position rolls off at approximately -3 dB and the last position rolls off at approximately -6 dB. The cardioid pattern offers the greatest rejection of unwanted audio at 180 degrees off axis, which is directly behind the microphone; there is virtually no off-axis coloration. New Product - Superlux R102 Ribbon Microphone
The Superlux R102 is a ribbon mic with the characteristic warm sound of the classic ribbon mics like the RCA 77DX. Use it on vocals, brass instruments, guitar amps, or anywhere else you wish to add some ribbon mic warmth. The sound is quite a contrast with the sound of common dynamic or condenser mics. Compared with my original RCA 77DX which is worth thousands, it has very similar sound with only a touch less low end warmth. Classic ribbon mics like the 77DX have very low output level. The R102 overcomes this problem by including a phantom powered preamplifier inside the mic along with the traditional impedance matching transformer. This allows it to have similar output levels to condenser mics, while retaining the wonderful ribbon sound and warmth. Traditional ribbon mics can easily be damaged or destroyed by wind or blowing into the microphone. The R102 is no different in this regard, but instead of having to pay a rebuild shop big money to replace the ribbon, with the R102 the entire ribbon assembly is designed as a easily replaceable module. Like most ribbon mics the R102 has a figure 8 pickup pattern which is identical front and rear, but has outstanding rejection of sounds from the sides. It uses a 2.5 micron thick aluminum ribbon in order to respond rapidly to transient sounds. Unlike some ribbon mics the sound is not muddy, but clear and sweet. A U shaped yoke stand mount is supplied, along with a mic cable with right angle connector for the microphone end, and the whole kit comes with a hard shell plastic carrying case.
